Barnaby Furnas at Marianne Boesky, New York

In his solo exhibition at Marianne Boesky, Barnaby Furnas displays his mastery of narrative and ability to control the chaos of paint. Furnas uses Herman Melville’s Moby Dick as the starting point to address religion and violence. The medium and large scale paintings and small works on paper blur abstract passages with vibrant content. Each element of the works is a study in Furnas’ domination of technique and ambitious subject matter. If Wishes Were Fishes is on view through January 9th 2013 at Marianne Boesky, 509 West 24th Street, New York.
