“Noir” reimagines Los Angeles through a cinematic lens, turning familiar streetscapes—Cadillac dealerships, diners, and theaters—into digitally enhanced blueprints, later painted in acrylic. The empty scenes and stark lighting create a sense of detachment, blending nostalgia with unease. Referencing film noir while maintaining his signature polished surfaces, Israel explores the intersection of Hollywood’s artifice and the city’s collective memory, where illusion and reality blur.
