A Q&A with Alejandro Gómez Palomo designer of the LVMH Prize nominated brand Palomo Spain
Palomo Spain by Alejandro Gómez Palomo started as an idea after graduating at the London College of Fashion. His fresh take on menswear reflects a traditional Spanish aesthetic paired together with fine tailoring, craftsmanship, and over-the-top decadence. The 24-year-old designer recently debuted at New York Fashion Week with his provocative, theatrical, and lavish collection “Objeto Sexual” featuring materials usually used for womenswear such as silk organzas, velvet, satin, Chantilly lace, houndstooth, and animal prints. Now a shortlist nominee for the LVMH Prize 2017, we wanted to know more about the Spanish designer in short Q&A inspired by the Proust questionnaire.
Purple — What images and references, if any, were on your moodboard for this collection?
Alejandro Gómez Palomo — Prostitutes from the 1920s and Virgin Macarena from Seville.
Purple — Can you tell us the concept behind the presentation in Madrid?
Alejandro Gómez Palomo — A date house where the boys were getting exposed to an audience that took the role of a client.
Purple — What quality do you like to see in a man?
Alejandro Gómez Palomo — I always try to seek for fragility, sensitiveness and femininity in men.
Purple — Do you have a favorite pastime outside of work?
Alejandro Gómez Palomo — I enjoy escaping to the countryside every now and then.
Purple — What’s your idea of bliss?
Alejandro Gómez Palomo — Get people to feel and understand my work. Creating emotions.
Purple — What is your idea of misery?
Alejandro Gómez Palomo — Failure
Purple — If you didn’t live in Madrid, where would you like to live?
Alejandro Gómez Palomo — I don’t live in Madrid. I live in a small town, Posadas, a few kilometers away from Cordoba and I think it’s here where I’d like to be.

Alejandro Gómez Palomo —The Beauty and the Beast.
Purple — Is there a gift or a talent you don’t have that you would like to have?
Alejandro Gómez Palomo —I would love to be a good actor. To have the ability to become different characters.
