“Hannah’s Haircut”, A performance by Artist Hannah Wilke filmed by PAUL TSCHINKEL, 1975, Presented by Katerina Jebb
The video presented here is an impromptu recording of artist Hannah Wilke “cutting” the hair of fellow artist Claes Oldenburg; it is an irreplaceable fragment in history depicting a time when personal freedom was still a physical possibility. Vive la Révolution 2020.
Paul Tschinkel is a video artist and the founder of the New York public access arts show Inner -Tube which aired on cable tv from 1974 until 1984. Tschinkel played a seminal role recording the downtown New York art and music scene, producing a significant body of work over several decades which continues to resonate profoundly in the year of 2020.
