To celebrate the energetic vibrations of the radiant Spring/Summer 2011 season, we’ve recreated the dream-spirit of the Playboy mansion, a utopian amusement park where girls in sexy, colorful clothes wandered freely around swimming pools, flowerbeds, and grottos. It’s sad that such a place exists only in our minds — and on the white walls of photography studios. Sadder still is the fact that fashion magazines are the only places where young women can play with their bodies, their clothes, and their beauty without anxiety. Terry Richardson grew up in LA in the late ’70s, when this hedonistic aesthetic was everywhere, with all those fantasy girls strolling on Sunset Boulevard, roller-skating on the boardwalk, and playing in the summer sun. So Terry’s is the perfect eye to recapture the irresistible and idyllic essence of West Coast freedom.
