The young French jewelry designer LIGIA DIAS has worked for Lanvin and collaborated with Rei Kawakubo, but she’s still under the radar. Yet for us, she’s one of today’s most original jewelry designers. Influenced as much by contemporary art as by modern design, she casually mixes ordinary hardware studs and painted wood with luxury elements like pearls and silk chiffon. She mounts pieces on braided leather or heavy, hand-dyed ribbons. Ligia’s currently an artist-in-residence at the Villa Kujoyama in Kyoto. So we shot her latest collection in a traditional Ryokan inn, modelled by the renowned Japanese actress, SAKURA ANDO.
