We spoke to Russian Edward Artemiev, one of the pioneers of avant-garde electronic music, shortly before his death. His process was alchemical — turning electric signals into sonic atmospheres. In his lifelong collaboration with Andrei Tarkovsky, he scored seminal films like solaris, mirror, and stalker. His compositions envisioned a future where man and machine merged in spiritual union.
