Portraits
by CAMERON MCCOOL
Mexico City-born Camila Doring paints large-scale canvases alive with fantastical hybrid creatures — half erotic dream, half nightmare — inhabiting a charged, psychological space. Her process is as performative as it is painterly, turning her studio into a stage for intimate transformation where performance and painting collide.
Cameron McCool visited her studio in Los Angeles and photographed her with her prosthetics, which don’t just alter her appearance but extend her artistic identity, melding painter and painting, subject and object. Each canvas pulses with body-conscious energy and uncanny fusion.
