The Jamaican-born founder of Diotima and new creative director of Proenza Schouler stands at the intersection of luxury and cultural transmission.
Rachel Scott unites fine tailoring and handcrafted crochet made by Jamaican artisans.
Peace for her is not an abstract ideal but a practice:honoring invisible hands, protecting cultural inheritance, and weaving beauty and solidarity into the fabric of everyday life.
OLIVIER ZAHM — Do people know that you named your brand, Diotima, after the character in Plato? Do you express Diotima’s voice through fashion?
RACHEL SCOTT — I hope to be her. But actually, I got to her not through Plato but through Herbert Marcuse’s Eros and Civilization. He talks about how our civilization is a male-dominated, hegemonic force, but there’s a potential if you take desire and sublimate it…
