with an art portifolio by CHRISTOPHER WOOL
Best known for his high-contrast pattern and word paintings, which he makes with rollers, stencils, and the silk-screen process, Christopher Wool also takes glaringly stark black-and-white pictures of bleak urban places, fences, back streets, abandoned cars, trash, human residue, and more, often at night. These pictures were selected from his book East Broadway Breakdown, 1994-95/2002; many were shot walking home from his painting studio in the East Village.
