When the Nigerian-born photographer and former model Oroma Elewa moved to New York City, she continued to celebrate her colorful and energetic African heritage in her blog, Pop’Africana, which she eventually transformed into the print magazine of the same name. She describes Pop’Africana as a “semiannual fashion/art magazine — an Africana book of style.” Bright pop-art colors, a vibrant aesthetic, and a revivial of ’70s and early ’80s African glamour differentiate Pop’Africana from standard fashion magazines. Oroma’s natural energy and optimism offer fashion people a new multicultural sensibility.
