Gardar Eide Einarsson

Barricade (Los Angeles), 2011, 66 car tires and resin, honor fraser gallery

text by JULIANA BALESTIN

The Norwegian artist Gardar Eide Einarsson’s visual world merges historical art references, from Kasimir Malevich to Steven Parrino, with his personal interest in counter-culture ideology. For his second solo exhibition, Power Under Construction, shown at Honor Fraser in Los Angeles, the artist lined up 66 car tires in groups of up to six, into which he set white-resin poles. Sticking with his standard black-and-white palette, Einarsson continues to combine simple, raw, well-posed material with his uniquely sophisticated anarchism.
