Alice Lane

photographed by STACEY MARK

Alice Lane grew up in the idyllic rural landscape of Shropshire, England, the daughter of a police detective. While Alice was still at art school studying painting and drawing she became involved with theater and began writing. After graduating she fulfilled her dream of moving to London and joining a band. But she soon discovered that she preferred grooming musicians for photo shoots and performances to playing with them. After this experience Alice moved to New York City and became a full-time makeup artist. She now works with many of the best-known photographers, including David Sims, Bruce Weber, and David Armstrong, and is recognized for her highly artistic free-style approach to make-up.
