We all love Chloë’s style. The writer Jay McInerney had it right in 1993 when he wrote the long article in The New Yorker about her attitude and fashion — and this when she was still a teenager in New York. Now, almost two decades later, she’s still the best-dressed girl of her generation. Chloë is the perfectly typical American girl. She epitomizes cool chic — no plastic surgery or superfluous fashion for her.
Another reason we’ve loved Chloë for so long is that she’s the best American actress today. This is no offense to Uma Thurman or Natalie Portman. She never compromises: she only acts in creative, artistic films, and only works for a big production — like HBO’s “Big Love” — if the story has substance. And she’s not afraid to take on controversial roles — not just for the sake of transgression, but because such roles address issues of sexuality, gender, love, and identity. And most importantly, you never catch her acting.
Chloë continues to be an inspiration for us and for each new generation. She has just the right taste in the clothes she wears, the men she dates, the way she decorates her apartment, and in the roles she plays as an actress — always without caring about good taste. But her best role isn’t a role at all, it’s who she is: the heart and face of Downtown New York.
