When we were working on our last collection, we looked back to a very specific time in our lives — a time when the adult world was starting to trickle in, but when the fearlessness of youth was still very much present within us. We were naïve, but brave; awkward, but confident. Many people have described what growing up in America was like in those days, but for many of us, no one captured the essence of it as accurately as Harmony Korine. Harmony’s film, Kids (1995), defines a pivotal moment in our lives, weaving a neat narrative of all the things we were seeing and experiencing around us. More importantly, Kids gave that moment a definitive esthetic and style. We wanted to inhabit its world of freedom, independence, and danger. Harmony went on to explore other themes and spin other narratives, creating as he went the definitive stamp of our generation’s point of view. We consider Harmony to be the quintessential filmmaker of his generation. That’s why we asked him if he would create a short film for our Fall/Winter collection. And much to our pleasant surprise, he agreed.
