Yoshitomo Nara’s “My Imperfect Self” exhibition at BLUM Gallery Los Angeles, on view until March 22nd
Returning to LA for the first time in over 30 years, Nara revisits the city where his solo debut took place at Blum & Poe in 1995. His latest exhibition marks a significant evolution in his sculptural practice, featuring eleven bronze heads that reframe his signature childlike figures with raw, expressive tactility. Originally shaped in clay, their misshapen, scarred surfaces preserve the immediacy of his hand, embracing imperfection. Accompanied by paintings and drawings, the exhibition moves beyond polished kawaii aesthetics to a deeper, introspective materiality. My Imperfect Self explores memory, place, and artistic reinvention, celebrating transformation and the beauty of the unresolved.
