Curated by Palazzo Grassi chief Alison Gingeras Unpainted Paintings brings together works from the 1950s to present. These works are united by artists seeking to re-imagine and push the limitations of painting through unconventional means using everything from a blowtorch to Kool-Aid to chocolate. A delicate gold leaf work by Robert Rauschenberg sits in the same room as a small scale ripped canvas of Steven Parrino. The entry space to the four floor show includes a fifteen-foot canvas by artist Dan Colen which uses crushed flowers as its medium and serves as a dynamic companion to the small scale poured Kool-Aid image by David Hammons. Unpainted Paintings is on view until May 27 at Luxembourg & Dayan, New York. Photo and text Juliana Balestin
