Une dernière dance? 1970-1989 Diary of a decade by Philippe Morillon

It took more than three years for Karl Lagerfeld’s friend, the French illustrator, art director and photographer Philippe Morillon, to be done with the layout of his book. The result is a vivid documentation of the pre- and post punk fashion scene of Paris from the late ’60s to the beginning of the ’80s, including characters like Yves Adrien, Roland Barthes, Edwige, Paquita Paquin, Andy Warhol, Djemila, Yves Saint Laurent, Fabrice Emare, Cyril Putman, Karl Lagerfeld, Alain Pacadis (pictured here) and so many people who died or disappeared. “When you are gone far, very far, too far, it is hard to come back, sometimes impossible”, writes Karl Lagerfeld in a brillant introduction.

I would never have started to take pictures at night without having seen Philippe Morillon’s works for Interview and Egoiste. It was on a photo shoot that Karl Lagerfeld gave me my first digital camera (a Sony Cybershot) to push me to start taking pictures. Photo and text Olivier Zahm
