The Gateway Arch is located in St. Louis, Missouri, on the west bank of the Mississippi River. It was built as a monument to the westward expansion (also known as the Gateway to the West). The arch was designed by Finnish-American architect Eero Saarinen and completed in 1965. It is the tallest man made monument in the United States. text and photo Rachel Chandler
