This week saw The Broad host a public talk between the infamous contemporary artist Jeff Koons and filmmaker-actor-author-artist John Waters as part of the museum’s The Un-Private Collection series. The talk engaged a dialogue about the motivations and ideas behind Koons’ works and his creative processes. Continuing the series The Broad will host Japanese pop-artist Takashi Murakami with bestselling author and scholar of Japanese history Pico Iyer. This conversation will focus on the complex historical and social narratives woven into Murakami’s practice and how they reflect upon contemporary Japanese culture. Other notable forthcoming talks include longtime friends Eric Fischl and actor, art collector, musician and author Steve Martin where they will discuss Fischl’s memoir, Bad Boy, his education at CalArts and the inspiration behind his painting and sculpture. Also John Currin on classical painting with Getty Trust President and CEO James Cuno and African-American artist Kara Walker with distinguished film director Ava DuVernay. The talks will be held at venues throughout Los Angeles, making the programming available to audiences across the city. Sign up to The Broad to be notified when tickets will become available.
