[September 21 2010]
After the success of Jeff Koons, then Xavier Veilhan, Takashi Murakami invades the Chateau of Versailles with his Japanese candy colored pop art. Provoking a tension between the historic baroque of Versailles and his saturated manga sculptures, he reactivates the passion and the opulence of Louis XIV. In a fitting end to the opening show, his friend and also featuring artist to Versailles, Pharrell Williams joined N.E.R.D and Uffie to perform a tribute to Murakami at L’Orangerie. Murakami Versailles runs until 12th December 2010 at the Château de Versailles, Versailles. Text and Photo Annabel Fernandes
