“Study For No”, an exhibition by Issy Woods at Lafayette Anticipations, Paris.
The first solo exhibition of Issy Wood in France brings together more than 60 works by the British painter, most of which are being shown for the first time. The exhibition unfolds around the notion of refusal and resistance, explored through the artist’s obsession with intimacy, interiority, care, desire, femininity, relationships, and identity. She explores the perks of the contemporary world and its power dynamics through series of paintings of hypersexualized leather jackets, gleaming car interiors, immaculate porcelain services, singular portraits of domestic animals, invasive dental examinations, and a multitude of self-portraits. Issy Wood approaches her painting practice as a form of diary, which she accompanies with daily writing and music composition that altogether form an intimate portrait.
On view until January 7th at Lafayette Anticipations, Paris
