Gallery Gabriel Rolt recently opened an exhibition of New York artist Ryan McGinley. The unabashed nude portraits and youthful abandon are still on display. However, with this exhibition McGinley progresses into a more sophisticated and cinematic point of view. In a new body of work, subjects fall through the darkened air without context. There is no sense of beginning or end which heightens the sense of drama and replaces the traditionally nostalgic mood of Mcginley’s previous series. Somewhere Place by Ryan McGinley is on view until 14 May at Gallery Gabriel Rolt, Elandsgracht 34, Amsterdam. Text Juliana Balestin
