Scott Ewalt’s exhibition Back in the Night pieces together Times Square ephemera from 1966 through 1996 to portray an exaggerated history of sex, vice and the underground. Ewalt’s world of pleasure recalls the short-lived nightclubs, performances and figures of the era include The Adonis and Peepland. Viewed under seedy red lighting, the artist’s meticulous collage works amplify these forgetten characters and objects from an era of carnal sensuality. On view through April 14th 2013 at Participant Inc, 253 East Houston, New York. Photo and text Juliana Balestin
