“Sánchezkaneismo,” the new collection of Bárbara Sánchez-Kane shown at Kurimanzutto, Mexico City.
Presented at Kurimanzutto, Bárbara Sánchez-Kane’s new collection consists of twenty characters embodying the spirit of her macho sentimental: a person who starkly rejects the ethos of traditional Mexican machismo, instead embracing one’s natural tendencies towards both feminine and masculine ways of being. Refusing to conform to the seasonal demands of fast fashion, the collection draws on her practices as both a fashion designer and visual artist to bring together unlikely pairings and striking shapes, pushing binary gender norms.
