Ryan Sullivan’s first solo exhibition with New York’s Maccarone gallery plays with the emotional possibilites of his materials while reining in the chaos of color and texture with a deft hand. The works appear like maps of cosmic terrains mixed with the eroticism of abstraction. The medium scale canvases suit Sullivan’s ability well as he creates a vague narrative through organic forms and cracked paint. On view through March 17th 2012 at Maccarone, 630 Greenwich Street, New York. Photo and text Juliana Balestin
