Stemming from his son Damon’s fascination for the Disneyland attraction ‘Pirates of the Caribbean,’ Paul McCarhty has been experimenting with the pirate world, which, for him, is an allegory of society: a bundle of unrestrained behaviours and corruption. A collection of paintings, drawings, installations and video material, this exhibition brings together the last twenty years of McCarthy’s dedication to the theme. With direct references to political and psychologically charged themes such as the 2003 US invasion of Iraq and torture, there is no shying away from the stark parody of social hierachies and cultural conventions.
