Over two weekends from May 12–14 and May 19–21, the French choreographers François Chaignaud and Cecilia Bengolea will present a special program at the Dia Beacon NY in which the duo will retrace their twelve-year partnership. Each performance will include three consecutive episodes recalling their collaborative work—from the musical structures of polyphonic singing, through the transcendent dance of Sylphides (2009), to the recent ensemble work Dub Love (2014). Mixing ballet, modern dance and influences from the choral singing with dancehall, dub, voguing, and club culture, François Chaignaud and Cecilia Bengolea express their radical politics and cultural associations.
This program is supported by the Cultural Services of the French Embassy in the United States and will be on view over two weekends from May 12–14 and May 19–21, at Dia:Beacon’s lower-level gallery, 3 Beekman Street, Beacon, 12508, New York.
