Last night, Team Gallery opened an exhibition of the American artist Marilyn Minter. Paintings from the Eighties reveals the starting point of Minter’s practice. These early works are less commercial than her later ones but equally as provocative. The uniting thread through the present day is the love of glamour and the strength of femininity and sexuality. The porn paintings in the show are brilliant in their combination of content supported by the materials. Minter allows the paint to drip down the enamel over her renderings of blow jobs. The paint mimics the drops of cum and excitement of sexual abandon. Paintings from the Eighties by Marilyn Minter is on view at the Team Gallery, 83 Grand Street, New York. Text Juliana Balestin
