Outside Walter De Maria‘s 6th Street studio in the East Village which served as an electricity station in the 1920s. De Maria is one of the best known artists belonging to the land art movement. His work, The New York Earth Room – an installation of over 280,000 pounds of dirt – has been on continuous view in Soho since 1980. Photo and text Juliana Balestin
