After five decades as one of the most famous restaurants on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, Elaine’s is closing. Opened in 1963, Elaine’s was founded by Elaine Kaufman and became a favourite haunt for half a century to influential writers, musicians, actors, politicians and filmmakers such as Norman Mailer, Tom Wolfe, Gay Talese, Woody Allen and Mick Jagger. Elaine Kaufman sadly passed away in December of last year; her managing partner remains but recently noted that Elaine’s does not exist without … Elaine.
