Klara Liden’s Pretty Vacant features urban remnants given new life and function within the gallery. Her installation S.A.D. mines Christmas trees discarded on the street in January accompanied by a sofa for contemplating the inevitable demise of these objects. Elsewhere in the space, Liden remedies the gallery’s lighting situation by transforming a New York City street cone into an overhead lamp. Liden’s work is a rebellious and subversive intervention for city life. On view through February 19th 2012 at Reena Spaulings, 165 East Broadway, New York. Photo and text Juliana Balestin
