Salon 94’s Party Picks offers a selection of images by the late Jimmy DeSana created between 1975 and 1987. A contemporary of photographers such as Robert Mapplethorpe and David Wojnarowicz, DeSana captures the cultural figures of Downtown New York alongside more intimate imagery of the human form. Portraits of Kenneth Anger, David Byrne and Laurie Anderson appear alongside photographs of staged environments intended to showcase different forms of eroticism and sexuality. DeSana’s powerful manipultion of color and shadow also enhances the emotion of each image and transforms the subject and narrative. On view through August 9th 2013 at Salon 94, 243 Bowery, New York.
