Presented in the form of a contemporary cabinet of curiosities, the exhibition of Dutch artist and fashion designer Iris van Herpen contextualizes her work through a carefully-curated selection of references, drawings, fabrics, and biological objects, as well as a series of artworks spanning the 18th century to the present. Her innovative fashion designs mirror the beauty and inner complexity of the living world, blurring the line between the natural and the artificial. At times working in unison with scientists, biologists, and architects, Van Herpen’s designs merge highly-crafted garments with cutting-edge technology such as artificial intelligence, material experimentation, and 3D printing. In this retrospective exhibition, fashion is presented as an extended sensorial exploration.
On view until April 28th, 2024 at Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Paris.
