In “Hoods,” Prince has found car hoods from the ‘60s and 70s and, in a style characteristic of the American artist, transforms these mass-media sources into artworks by themselves. Having handpicked more than thirty works –most pieces created over the last twenty-five created and are on loan from major institutions– Prince uses DIY car culture as his base for the experimentation of abstraction and the readymade, thereby linking his artistic practise to a recognisable memory of postwar America.
“Hoods,” is on view now until June 25 at Gagosian, 522 West 21st Street, New York
