Taking its name from the 54 countries on the continent, 1:54 Contemporary African Art Fair at Somerset House returned as a leading platform for artists, galleries, curators, independent art centres and institutions dedicated to promoting African and Africa related art practices and projects. Ever committed to exploring new perspectives and voices, the selected exhibitors for 1:54’s second edition hail from global territories including Kenya, South Africa, France, Italy, Germany, UK, and USA to showcase over 120 emerging and established artists working within the parameters of contemporary African art or Africa-related practices. Accompanying the fair was the Forum. Led by Koyo Kouoh, founding artistic director of RAW Material Company in Dakar, the educational series introduced a critical and insightful programme comprising artist talks, lectures, panel discussions and film screenings.
