David Zwirner’s new presentation of Gordon Matta-Clark investigates the artist’s role as filmmaker. Curator Jessamyn Fiore contrasts interior and exterior glimpses of the world captured by Matta-Clark in the years before his death. The artist takes on a series of contrasts between creation and destruction, upward and downward. Shifting points of view and unexpected angles leave viewers uneasy with their perspective. The results reveal a subversive urban existence unique to Matta-Clark’s practice. Above and Below is on view through May 4th 2013 at David Zwirner, 519 West 19th Street, New York.
