[February 4 2013]
Fabio Viale’s marble works transform the mundane to the monumental. Tires and paper bags rendered in cold stone become objects for devotion and void of their original purpose. In the back of the gallery Viale presents Souvenir (Pieta), an isolated figure of Jesus. As with the other objects in the show, the artist turns a critical eye towards the idea of replica and imitation. Stargate is on view through February 23rd 2013 at Sperone Westwater, 257 Bowery, New York. Photo and text Juliana Balestin
