The focus of Carsten Höller’s multi level New Museum exhibition is the “visitor experience.” After signing a waiver, visitors are encouraged to interact with Höller’s creations includng a slide running through three levels of the museum and a coffer of pills to take from and swallow. Singing caged birds and giant mushrooms create an Alice in Wonderland effect for adults and children alike. While the exhibition seems quite fun and light-hearted, Höller’s work always contains an underlying thread of the grostesque and sensual. Until 15 January at The New Museum, 235 Bowery, New York.
