Einstein on the Beach is a five-hour long opera directed by Robert Wilson and scored by Philip Glass. The opera premiered last night for the first time in New York since 1984 at The Brooklyn Academy of Music and was enthusiastically received by a packed house with a standing ovation when Wilson and Glass took their bows. Rather than a coherent linear narrative, the opera takes a formalist approach incorporating repetitive bodily movements and minimalist acoustics and design. Einstein on the Beach is a true sensorial experience and a beautiful multimedia revival by two masterminds of contemporary performance. The opera will play on select nights until September 23rd at The Peter Jay Sharpe building of The Brooklyn Academy of Music, 30 Lafayette Avenue, NY11217, Brooklyn.
