This story takes us hundreds of years ago, to times when two-spirited people, intersex, androgynous, feminine males and masculine females – have been often held in high respect. Traditionalists tend to see a person’s basic character as a reflection of their spirit. Since everything that exists was thought to come from the spirit world, androgynous or transgender people were seen as doubly blessed, having both the spirit of a man and the spirit of the woman. These people were considered leaders in their tribes, alchemists and even witches. This photoshoot presents the two spirit leaders of the Middle East back in the days in one of the most mysterious locations in the Judaean Desert, Palestine.
