Daisies was a one-night art show, organized by Paige Silveria (who also curated the work) and Sandra Winther, in New York July 10th. It consisted of visual art by twenty female artists including Carlotta Kohl, Georgia Hilmer, Marland Backus, Manon Macasaet and more. In addition, there were musical performances by Okay Kaya, Lila Gold and Maia Zoe, and a dance performance by Queen Moves.
The show drew inspiration (and its title) from the vibrantly wrought cult-classic 1966 film “Daisies,” where through a series of disparate episodes, two existentially disillusioned women engage in revelrous and anarchic behavior. The film was part of the Czechoslovak New Wave whose goals were to challenge social and political pressures at the time — and its director, Vera Chytilova was the movement’s sole female member (and the country’s first female director).
