On Saturday, the Museum of Modern Art’s PS1 hosted a preview for artist Cyprien Gaillard’s new exhibition. The Crystal World investigates the emotional relationship between nature, man and outmoded motifs and the implications of destruction and struggle in contemporary life. Gaillard’s standout single channel film, Artefacts, takes viewers to contemporary Iraq and examines the post-war culture and nostalgia for the loss of Babylon. The decay of cultural symbols and relfections on the passage of time are hallamrks of Gaillard’s work and evident throughout the multi room presentation of film, painting, sculpture and photography. On view through March 18th 2013 at PS1, 22-25 Jackson Avenue, Long Island City, Queens. Photo and text Juliana Balestin
