Public Art Fund’s latest project at New York’s City Hall Park reflects on personal and collective memory. The dynamic group of artists including Jenny Holzer, Matthew Day Jackson, Paul McCarthy and Justin Matherly upend conventions of public memorials by inserting clever twists and wit into universal objects and imagery. Many of the works use stone to reference traditional forms of commemoration. Christian Jankwoski’s engraved granite tombstone situated in the park’s grass memorializes his future passing and reminds viewers of the intersection between the public and private. On view through November 30th 2012 at City Hall Park, New York. Photo and text Juliana Balestin
