Alex Hubbard’s latest exhibition features a strong and varied body of work. The artist takes over Maccarone’s main gallery with large molded objects that function as both painting and sculpture. The works balance abstraction with definitive forms to create alluring results. In the gallery’s adjacent space on Morton Street, Hubbard departs from the pace and energy of the main gallery and instead offers freestanding bars structures. The single occupancy designs are provocative with mirrors reflecting into the viewer’s space to create a deliberate and complex sense of isloation. Magical Ramon and The Five Bar Blues is on view through June 1st 2013 at Maccarone, 630 Greenwich Street, New York. Photo and text Juliana Balestin
