Last night, the New Museum in collaboration with the Art Production Fund unveiled After Hours: Murals on the Bowery, taking place on the occasion of the Festival of Ideas for a New City. Artists including Richard Prince, Lawrence Weiner, Sterling Ruby and Adam McEwen were invited to design murals employing traditional street art graffiti, mural and poster techniques. The finished designs were placed on the roll down shutters of local businesses on the Bowery. Each night when the storefronts close, the shutters are visible to passersby starting on the Bowery and Houston and extending down to Grand Street. And like so much street art, the works will be painted over and disappear at the end of the project. After Hours: Murals on the Bowery is on view through to 7 July at the New Museum, 235 Bowery, New York.
