For its second exhibition in Osaka, the Espace Louis Vuitton presents eighteen works of German artist Gerhard Richter. After fleeing Eastern Germany in 1961, Richter took on photography as a way of interacting with the turbulent the war had created for the world around him. Used as sources and materials, these photographs served as the base for his abstract and monochromatic paintings. As such, his painted work directly challenges notions of art, as well as the Capitalist Realist movement of the time.
On view now until May 15th at the Espace Louis Vuitton, Osaka
