Rising star Esther-Rose McGregor, a young actress, model, musician, and tatoo artist, is the daughter of Star Wars icon Ewan McGregor. She recently appeared in Pedro Almodóvar’s The Room Next Door and Halina Reijn’s Babygirl with Nicole Kidman, ready to make her mark in 2025.

OLIVIER ZAHM — What does fashion mean to you? 

ESTHER-ROSE MCGREGOR — Fashion, for me, has always been a way to extend my body into a sense of confidence, by finding what makes me feel whole, beautiful, and myself. I think fashion itself, beyond the nightmares of the industry, is fun and an act of play — not necessarily a game, but an exciting way of creating play. It can tell the truth if you let it.

OLIVIER ZAHM — Do you believe in fiction more than  reality? 

ESTHER-ROSE MCGREGOR — It’s important to stay grounded in reality. That doesn’t mean there’s no room for imagination. I imagine and create little fictions in my head.

OLIVIER ZAHM — Walt Disney Studios or Studio Ghibli?

ESTHER-ROSE MCGREGOR — Definitely Studio Ghibli. That’s what I grew up watching — no Disney Channel in my family. Hayao Miyazaki is one of my all-time favorite directors and creators. His films inspire adventure within nature and feature powerful, awe-inspiring female leads. He is a one-and-only filmmaker.

OLIVIER ZAHM — Who is your favorite Japanese artist?

ESTHER-ROSE MCGREGOR — After Miyazaki, surely Haruki Murakami. Once I started reading his books, I couldn’t stop. And I haven’t wanted to.

OLIVIER ZAHM — In your opinion, what does our planet need the most right now?

ESTHER-ROSE MCGREGOR — What I always need: peace. Always peace. Love. Kindness and compassion. Understanding. Unity.
