Somebody / Miu Miu Women’s Tales #8 by Miranda July
“Texting is tacky. Calling is awkward. Email is old,” said Miranda July, filmmaker and creator of the new free messaging service SOMEBODY. July investigates into the ways technology mediates our interpersonal communications. “When you send your friend a message through Somebody, it goes — not to your friend — but to the Somebody user nearest your friend. This person (likely a stranger) delivers the message verbally, acting as your stand-in.” July wrote and directed this film to launch the app for Miu Miu Womens’ Tales, the eighth commission in the acclaimed short-film series by women directors who critically celebrate femininity in the 21st century.
