Rumours from an Ellan Harp by Bruno Ilogti by Bruno Ilogti

Director Bruno Ilogti created this short inspired by Henry David Thoreau poem, called “Rumors from an Aeolian Harp” the personification of beauty and heaven described in the poem is played on the film by the androgynous model Andrej Pejic they shot last month while he was on vacation in Rio. The soundtrack of the film is “Aeolian Harp”,played by pianist Henry Cowell who was also inspired on Thoreau’s poem. From mythical history, an eolian harp is an instrument played by the wind. It is named after Aeolus, the ancient Greek god of the wind. It’s like pieces of information or wisdom you receive by listening to the wind or the “natural world”. The poem describes an imaginary paradise or an utopia. The beauty of nature for the poet seems to promise something more beautiful than real life.

“Rumors from an Aeolian Harp” by Henry David Thoreau There is a vale which none hath seen, Where foot of man has never been, Such as here lives with toil and strife, An anxious and a sinful life. There every virtue has its birth, Ere it descends upon the earth, And thither every deed returns, Which in the generous bosom burns. There love is warm, and youth is young, And poetry is yet unsung. For Virtue still adventures there, And freely breathes her native air. And ever, if you hearken well, You still may hear its vesper bell, And tread of high-souled men go by, Their thoughts conversing with the sky.
